Anchoring hearts
Preventing cardiovascular disease in New York City—now that’s something to love.
February is American Heart Month, and we at The Floating Hospital are excited to raise awareness about heart health and the importance of cardiovascular care for our patient families. From workshops in our health education classroom to programming in our welcoming and colorful lobby area, members of our team from several departments spend the second month of the year coming together for heart health.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. At The Floating Hospital, our doctors, nurses, and medical staff strive to communicate with our patients that many cardiovascular diseases are preventable through early detection and lifestyle changes. This is where community-based healthcare organizations like The Floating Hospital play a crucial role. By offering comprehensive cardiac care services, including screenings, diagnostic tests, and education, we empower individuals to take control of their heart health and live fuller, healthier lives.
“Preventing heart disease requires a comprehensive approach that can involve not only medical intervention but also education and lifestyle modifications. At The Floating Hospital, we strive to offer our patients a customized approach to cardiac care that empowers them to take control of their heart health and live the life they want to live.”
Dr. Shani Andre, Medical Director, The Floating Hospital
Prevention, education and commitment
The hallmark of our approach to cardiac care is our emphasis on prevention. By addressing risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity before they escalate into serious conditions, we can significantly reduce the burden of heart disease in our community. Through our wellness programs, nutritional counseling, and exercise initiatives, we strive to give individuals the knowledge and tools they need to make heart-healthy daily choices.
Our commitment to cardiac care extends beyond the walls of our clinic. We understand that access to healthcare requires an approach rooted in community outreach. Under the leadership of our Director of Community Outreach, Cynthia Davis, and our Director of Health Education, Dr. Meghan Miller, we partner with local schools, community centers, and faith-based organizations to bring our services directly to those who need them most. From blood pressure screenings at neighborhood events to heart health workshops in underserved communities, we are dedicated to breaking down barriers to care and ensuring no heart is left behind.
In the spirit of American Heart Month, we invite you to join us in our mission to promote heart health and wellness for all. You can do this by scheduling an annual check-up, adopting heart-healthy habits or spreading the word about the importance of cardiac care via your social media.
