Overview

We deliver exceptional, compassionate healthcare to families facing financial hardship, ensuring they receive the care they need regardless of insurance coverage or financial situation. Each year, we provide significantly more charity care (10x more) than the typical nonprofit hospital, ensuring families have access to essential care, even when they cannot afford it.

Compassionate healthcare, now and for the long-term

Our comprehensive charity services include primary medical, dental, behavioral healthcare, and specialty medical services such as infectious disease treatment and podiatry. Our optometry clinic provides thorough eye exams and corrective vision services.

With nearly 160 years of experience in New York City, we understand that primary healthcare alone isn’t enough. We extend our support by providing education, practical tools, and strategies that empower families to thrive despite financial constraints, limited access to nutritious food, and scarce neighborhood resources.

The Floating Hospital’s safety-net system delivers healthcare at no cost to New York City families in need, thanks to the generosity of our community of supporters who share our belief that everyone deserves excellent healthcare.

Through them, we keep families afloat.

The Good Health Shuttle

It’s one of our founding principles: eliminating barriers to healthcare is as vital as providing the care. With homeless families increasingly isolated in unfamiliar and underserved locations, getting to a clinic is a formidable challenge. In response, The Floating Hospital provides free, round-trip vehicle transportation to patients residing in family homeless shelters or domestic violence safe houses throughout the five boroughs, and public housing developments in Northwest Queens. We provide MetroCards to qualifying patients who prefer to use public transit. Every year, our vehicles travel to hundreds of locations city-wide—and accumulate enough mileage to circle the globe 4.5 times.
