New York Nonprofit Media Recognizes Director of Outreach as Front Line Hero
On Tuesday, April 18th, Ivan Romero, Director of Shelter Outreach, was recognized by New York Nonprofit Media as a Front-Line Hero. Hosted at 121 Fulton Street in Downtown Manhattan, this annual event celebrated community members who display excellence in their commitment to serving those in need, through their work in the field to help clients receive the services offered by nonprofits across the five boroughs. Each recipient received an engraved award at the ceremony.
Over the course of a 23-year career at The Floating Hospital, Romero has been promoted from health advocate to director of its homeless shelter program. Recognizing that a lack of transportation was one of the biggest barriers preventing people from accessing needed health care, Ivan was also assigned oversight of its transportation department.
Under his leadership, The Floating Hospital’s outreach activities have expanded from serving residents of approximately 10 homeless and domestic violence shelters to a current outreach operation reaching residents in over 200 homeless and domestic violence shelters across all five boroughs of NewYork City. On a daily basis, approximately 100 patients from over 50 shelters from all five boroughs of New York City are transported to and from TFH’s Long Island City clinic.
