SECURING THE FUTURE OF FAMILY HEALTHCARE FOR ALL
Our new medical home meets needs in challenging times
The Floating Hospital’s new flagship clinic in the heart of Long Island City expands our services and doubles our patient capacity. In a time of shrinking resources in the city—especially for those most in need—our state-of-the-art 30,000-foot facility delivers high-quality, compassionate care for New York City’s families living in temporary housing, who need a safety net.
It is truly a medical home for so many who have no home of their own. Patients will arrive to three stories of light-filled waiting rooms and dedicated floors for medical, dental and behavioral health. The clinic was designed to accommodate entire families in the waiting, exam and counseling rooms, and reflects the need of families for joint consultations—all under one roof. At the heart is an open teaching kitchen and adjacent learning studio for demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The coronavirus pandemic presented a new lens through which to see our community and our unique place in it. Now, more clearly than ever, we see what our new clinic represents: the right for all people to have dignified, compassionate, and first-rate healthcare, regardless of their financial or immigration status or ability to pay.
This is almost within our—and our patients’—reach. But we need your help to realize the full potential of the clinic.
It will take everyone coming together to complete this essential community project. Please contact Laura Evans at levans@thefloatinghospital.org to learn about giving opportunities and how you can impact the lives of thousands of families living with homelessness.
The Floating Hospital’s new flagship clinic is located at 2101 41st Avenue in Long Island City.
