Funding from Congresswoman Maloney gives Floating Hospital a shot in the arm

We are thrilled to report on April 19 our longtime friend and advocate, Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, announced a grant of $4,320,500 for the Floating Hospital to expand services to provide Covid-19 vaccinations, testing, and treatment for vulnerable populations. The funding will allow us to deliver preventive and primary healthcare services to people at higher risk for the virus and and expand our operational capacity as the pandemic continues. The congresswoman made the announcement with Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards and community leaders outside our clinic at the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City.

“Representative Maloney and the Queens Borough President’s Office have been steadfast champions of our mission to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare and more to all who need it, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Floating Hospital Foundation executive director Ellen Barker. “We are grateful for this extraordinary support that will help ensure The Floating Hospital’s remains a safety net for all New Yorkers, especially during a global health crisis that still has a grip on our city.”

A special thank you …

To the folks at Garment District for Gowns who successfully raised nearly $16,000 in a special online raffle, the proceeds of which will purchase PPE for our providers, and new clothing and personal care supplies for our patients living in family homeless shelters. GDFG was founded by independent professionals in the fashion industry to help supply healthcare workers with an essential piece of protection needed on the front lines.

Women’s Wellness Day

On Saturday, May 15, the Floating Hospital’s will host the first of its biannual Women’s Wellness events.
