Candy Cane Lane 2019 is almost upon us!

Candy Cane Lane is The Floating Hospital’s annual holiday drive. We collect toys, books, gift cards, coats, and other winter clothes, for children and teens living in homeless shelters.

This is the tenth year of Candy Cane Lane. What started as a one day event, has gracefully spiraled into a two-week event.

While the holiday season is associated with hope and joy, it’s difficult for New York City’s homeless to feel that. Candy Cane Lane brings them caring and warmth.

When patients complete their treatments at The Floating Hospital, they take a walk through our pop up Candy Cane Lane before they board our vans to go back to the shelter. Each little patient gets to choose two toys. Their parents choose PJs and warm winter clothes, like coats, boots, and hats, for each of their children.

Gifts come from a generous array of donors, from individuals to large companies. Although many donations come from our kind and supportive neighbors in Long Island City, we accept generous donations from all over the country.

Cynthia Davis, our Director of Community Outreach, has organized Candy Cane Lane since it started: “This is not just a toy; it’s a priceless emotion. It’s a gift, it’s hope. And it’s definitely a change in life.”

Candy Cane Lane 2019 is our biggest and best yet. Of course, we – and our families – will be delighted to extend even further again in 2020!

You can donate directly to The Floating Hospital’s Community Outreach Center, or call Cynthia to arrange a pickup! Find out all the details of how you can get involved. December 6th is the last day we accept donations.
