TFH TODAY

Most people are surprised to learn that families – not single adults – represent almost 80% of the 35,000 homeless New Yorkers seeking a safe place to sleep on a nightly basis. Almost half of all homeless families are fleeing domestic violence or abuse.

The shocking truth about homelessness in NYC today...

  • Today’s “typical” homeless New Yorker is a mother with two pre-school age children.
  • Children now account for 40% of those living in the NYC shelter system -- the single largest and fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
  • Nearly 100 children per day visit our TFH family Health Network – most are under 6 years old.
