Adolescents-at-Risk Services
Caring and Compassionate Health Care for Troubled Teens
The Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”), the NYC agency responsible for providing detention, prevention and aftercare services for youth (ages 8-17) remanded to its custody by the Family Court system, has fully funded a 3-year TFH performance-based contract for 24/7 medical and dental services that began in February 2008.
Adolescents awaiting foster care custody hearings and placement are housed in non-secure facilities and alleged juvenile delinquents and offenders are detained in secure sites that offer Department of Education schools and varied recreation programs. This program affords TFH the opportunity to help an estimated 6,000 teens annually get compassionate and caring medical and dental treatment and address the hygiene, nutrition, exercise and substance abuse issues that could change their future. No private funding is used for this program.
